- What are your workplace’s mission and services?
The Economic Development Department’s mission is to realize greater economic prosperity for residents and businesses through the facilitation of and active engagement in activities that result in productive, inclusive and sustainable growth and improvement. In my role, I am responsible for strategic management of the various department divisions which include corporate business development, minority business enterprise, small business and entrepreneur services, redevelopment, tourism, cultural assets, agribusiness, technology and innovation, business intelligence, compliance and competitive sites. I am dedicated to improving the economic health of my community through new and innovative initiatives that provide return-on-investment to residents.
- Which are the three words that best describe you?
Gifted, creative, resourceful
- How do you achieve work/life balance?
I do not think I have perfected it, but I have learned that there won’t be a perfect 50/50 balance every day. Some days it’s 100% work. Some days its 100% life; but over time it will balance. I believe the goal is to not be hard on oneself either way the day turns out.
- How do you stay informed about trends in your industry?
I am constantly reading – online, print magazines, International Economic Development Council (IEDC) trade publications and research materials. I also attend local development community events, am engaged in several boards and study real estate market indicators. Meeting and having meaningful dialog with local business owners and real estate professionals is also vital to having the pulse of the community.
- Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?
The Downtown Tampa Starbucks inside the Hilton Hotel. There are lots of good nooks to have a quiet conversation.
- Can you tell us one item still on your bucket list?
I want to travel to Peru and visit Machu Picchu. While there, I would also like to take an aerial tour of the Nasca lines.
