- What are your company’s mission and services?
I work for Adventist Health Systems. We are a healthcare company running hospitals and other healthcare services in 10 states. In the state of Florida you would recognize our hospitals under the name of Florida Hospital. Our mission is to extend the Healing Ministry of Christ. We do this by restoring members of our communities back to health by addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs. While we fall short of our goal, through our mission we strive to make members in our communities Whole!
- Where are you and your parents from?
My parents are from Cuba. They originally came to the United States shortly after being married in the early 1950’s. Missing home, they went back to Cuba around 1960 (yes, AFTER Fidel took over and no, I can’t explain this). Having lost every possession (house, furniture, car, clothes) they returned to the United States with me in tow in 1963. Central Florida has been home since 1966.
- Which are the three words that best describe you?
Passionate, Inquisitive, Committed
- What is the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
None of us are perfect and because of that we are prone to make mistakes. It is much easier to overcome and be “forgiven” for those mistakes when you are trusted. If your peers and superiors can’t trust you, it will be almost impossible to succeed.
- How do you achieve work/life balance?
Family is important to me. Even so, there have been times when work has dominated my life. Fortunately, I have a wife who is not shy about bringing this to my attention and helps me become more focused and intentional about maintaining a balance.
