WaterMate, Restoration Services
Ramy Melo is a jack of all trades with entrepreneurial spirit. Ramy’s journey began when his family moved from a small town in the Dominican Republic to the United States in the early 2000s. They moved to Rhode Island and eventually relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. A graduate of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools system, Ramy went to college to study computer science and cyber security. He also joined the military and after seeing the world during his service to the U.S. Armed Forces, he found his passion in the mitigation industry. He strived to pursue something he was passionate about, working on his own business while helping others in times of crisis.
In 2017, the 25-year-old entrepreneur launched WaterMate, initially offering services to repair the aftermath of fires in residential or commercial building structures. The company now offers water, smoke, fire, storm, and wind recovery services.
“Being a new business owner, you are not going to know everything. It is best to try and work through difficult conversations and trial and error,” says Ramy about taking it step by step when developing a new business. “You should view everything as a learning experience from which you can grow.”
In 2018, Ramy found out about Prospera through a friend and has been receiving consulting in marketing and access to contract opportunities with the City of Charlotte through the Charlotte Business Inclusion Program.
