What are your workplace’s mission and products/services?
Our mission is to help businesses make confident, strategic real estate decisions by aligning location, economics, operations, and long-term growth objectives. At 180 Commercial Real Estate Advisors, we provide site selection and location strategy, tenant and landlord representation, market analysis, lease negotiations and administration, portfolio advisory, and project coordination across Central Florida, Puerto Rico, and select international markets.
What motivated you to serve as a Prospera volunteer?
Most of my clients are business owners making the single largest fixed-cost commitment of their lives: their location, often without anyone in the room who is on their side. Entrepreneurs can face additional challenges, with the lending system and lease documents both being unfamiliar terrain. I volunteer because real estate is where a lot of those businesses quietly fail, and it’s an area where I can contribute my experience and perspective.
What have you enjoyed the most so far about volunteering with Prospera?
What I’ve enjoyed most is the arc. I’ve sat with entrepreneurs when the business was still an idea on a napkin, talked through where it would go and what it would cost, and then watched that same person build a real, reputable operation. You don’t get that view in a transaction. You get it when you’re in the conversation early enough to matter.
What would you most like the community to know about Prospera?
That it costs nothing, and that there isn’t a catch. Prospera is funded by corporations, donations, and foundations precisely so the entrepreneur pays nothing. I’ve watched business owners hesitate to call because they assume free means limited or that someone is selling them something on the back end. It doesn’t. Consulting, training, and guidance on access to capital are all available at no charge.
Which three words best describe you?
Disciplined, committed, and straightforward.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
Titles give you authority. Character gives you influence. Early in my career, I learned that it isn’t about the position, the firm, or the board seat. People follow the person, not the title, and the only durable measure of a career is how many other people got better because you were in the room.
How do you achieve work/life balance?
By deciding in advance which hours aren’t for sale. Fridays are for administrative work and reflecting on what worked or didn’t that week, nothing after six, and the first 90 minutes of the day belong to me before the phone starts. This business will take every unguarded hour you have.
How do you stay informed about trends in your industry?
Broadly first, then narrowly. I read the Financial Times daily because real estate decisions are made against interest rates, currency, and capital flows, not just local listings, and the FT gives you that perspective before it filters down. Then I read the news in the three markets where I work: Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Florida. I look at what’s expanding, what’s contracting, and what a new administration or incentive may have changed.
And then there’s windshield time. I drive my markets. I tour sites. I talk to the brokers across the table from me and the owners in my chamber network. A vacancy report gives you the number. Driving the corridor tells you why it’s that number.
Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?
The Glass Knife, Bar Italia, and The Citrus Club.
Which social media platform do you use most frequently?
Facebook.
What is one item still on your bucket list?
Visiting Iceland.
