Georgia Client: Karla Ramirez and Alex Coleman
Building Resilience Through Mental Health and Wellness
Karla Ramirez has dedicated more than a decade of her career to mental health, trauma-informed interventions, and community-based resiliency initiatives. Drawing from her experience as a Licensed Master Social Worker, she co-founded Energy Works ATL, LLC with her aunt, Alex Coleman, combining their professional backgrounds to create a business focused on psychotherapy, emotional regulation, and nervous system healing. Established in 2020 in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the women-owned business provides culturally responsive services designed to support the well-being of the communities it serves.
As the business evolved, Karla and Alex recognized that their dedication and long hours were not translating into the financial results they needed to sustain the company. They wanted to better understand their finances, reduce operating costs, and determine which services offered the strongest opportunities for profitability. Finding a more sustainable business model became essential to continuing the work they had spent years building.
Redesigning the Business for Sustainability
Karla first learned about Prospera in September 2025 while attending the Georgia Hispanic Construction Association’s Labor Day event. She connected with the organization while seeking support to strengthen the company’s accounting practices and rethink its business model for greater long-term sustainability. Through Prospera’s personalized business consulting and advancement services, Energy Works ATL received accounting guidance and an operations-focused business plan that helped Karla and Alex evaluate expenses, profitability, pricing, staffing, and the services they offered.
The process gave them a clearer understanding of the company’s financial performance and revealed key opportunities to strengthen the business. Based on their findings, Karla and Alex transitioned to service packages with more sustainable pricing and carefully reviewed monthly and annual costs to identify areas for savings. These changes ultimately reduced operating expenses by nearly 50%.
A Clearer Vision for What Comes Next
With a better understanding of their financial information, Karla and Alex completely redesigned their business plan and developed a clearer vision for how Energy Works ATL could grow sustainably. As Karla explains, “The accounting mentorship helped us learn how to better understand and utilize financial tools to track and interpret our numbers. Since none of us come from a business background, this knowledge has been incredibly empowering and has allowed us to plan more intentionally and focus our growth.”
Their long-term plan includes focusing the business on licensed therapy services for local communities, along with specialized massage treatments for chronic pain and mobility. Prospera’s guidance also introduced them to new opportunities to work with larger organizations and government entities. For Karla, having that broader perspective has changed not only how they manage Energy Works ATL, but also how they envision its potential.
Energy Works ATL was created around helping people build resilience, and Karla and Alex are now applying that same principle to the business itself. By making difficult decisions, understanding their finances more deeply, and reshaping their services around a more sustainable model, they are creating greater stability for the work they want to continue providing. For Karla, building a business ultimately means creating more opportunities to support the mental health and well-being of the communities that inspired its creation.
