Katheryn personally oversees every aspect of the business, from pattern design and fabric sourcing, to production and sales. SLIC’s product lineup features an impressive range of utility, workwear, sportswear, and heavy-duty clothing, all known for their exceptional quality.
Driven by the desire for self-expression, SLIC aims to create durable streetwear that embodies high quality and longevity. Blending influences from Ecuador, New Jersey/New York, and Charlotte, SLIC’s designs present a unique and diverse aesthetic. Its mission is to embody the universal spirit of love, promoting inclusivity and individuality in every collection.
The name SLIC has a powerful origin story. Inspired by her experiences as an immigrant, Katheryn sought to reclaim the derogatory term “spic” and transform it into something empowering. Hence, Katheryn gave birth to SLIC, which stands for Spanish Lady in Control. As a woman-owned and operated enterprise, SLIC serves as a platform for Katheryn to share stories, including her own immigrant journey. Through her fashion designs, she strives to convey powerful narratives and connect with individuals who can relate to her experiences.
Katheryn discovered Prospera through her family, and recognized the immense potential to leverage its resources and expertise to further develop SLIC. Prospera provided invaluable support, including legal assistance and new business and marketing plans to propel SLIC’s growth and sustainability.
Katheryn’s vision extends beyond her brand. She aims to share the stories of her community and provide employment opportunities by expanding her business. Moreover, she encourages fellow Hispanic entrepreneurs to connect with their community, seek available resources, and embrace networking opportunities.
