North Carolina Client: Myriam Deese
Originally from Chile, Myriam Deese is the owner of Mark-Her, LLC. She offers catering, event planning, and decoration services in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 2005. Before embarking on her entrepreneurial journey, Myriam realized she had a special gift for helping others make their special occasions even more memorable. She decided to turn that gift into a profitable business.
Setting herself apart from others, Myriam’s business thrives on a unique personal approach, focusing on building friendships with her clients. By getting to know them well, she can provide services tailored to their unique tastes, personalities, and desires. However, that is not the only thing that distinguishes her business; Mark-Her is also exceptional for its commitment to environmental stewardship. Myriam helps her customers reduce waste by reusing most of her décor pieces for multiple events, including centerpieces, table decorations, and more.
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Myriam discovered Prospera through the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte in her quest for help to keep her business afloat. Although initially she didn’t qualify for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan through a large bank, with Prospera’s guidance and assistance, she was able to access capital from a smaller financial institution to fortify her business. Furthermore, whenever there have been opportunities for local small businesses to access capital, Myriam has relied on Prospera for information and guidance to navigate the process. As a result, she has secured both a business loan and a grant, propelling her business forward and overcoming challenges. Through Prospera’s personalized one-on-one business consulting and seminars, Myriam has enhanced her knowledge and skills in business administration, leading to significant improvements in her business management and operational practices.
Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Myriam believes in maintaining a strong faith because even in challenging times, there’s always something good on the horizon. Her advice to other Hispanic entrepreneurs is simple: “Do things with good intent, and good things will happen to you, too.” Additionally, Myriam emphasizes the importance of community collaboration, believing it to be the key to collective success.
Today, Myriam’s business stands as the first local Hispanic-owned business in her industry with a grand capacity. She proudly converts 99% of the inquiries she receives into loyal customers and she continues to prioritize her clients’ satisfaction, community engagement, and environmental conservation efforts, every day.
