South Florida Client Spotlight – Alejandro Diaz
Originally from Venezuela, Alejandro Diaz moved to Miami aiming to continue his journey as an entrepreneur in the food industry. In 2011, Alejandro established La Latina, a neighborhood arepera that offers homemade traditional Venezuelan comfort food in the Wynwood and Midtown Miami area. La Latina is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late afterparty dining.
When the COVID-19 pandemic reached the area in early 2020, Alejandro came to Prospera looking for support to pivot his business. Prospera awarded La Latina with an accounting assessment grant to review the business financials and assisted Alejandro with the application process for economic relief opportunities such as the Paycheck Protection Program and the Miami-Dade County Hospitality Program.
La Latina was recognized as the “2020 Best Arepa” by the Miami New Times and appeared in the popular Univision morning television show, Despierta America.
Yet aside from their popular delicious dishes, La Latina is also notorious for its commitment to contribute to the South Florida community. Not only does La Latina support Hispanic entrepreneurs by donating to non-profit organizations such as Prospera, but it also provides meals to essential community workers as part of a local campaign called Feed the Chain. At Prospera, we are very proud to see the positive impact of La Latina in the community and look forward to continuing working together in the future.
