West Coast Client – Miriam Escobar
Florida Ice of Tampa Corporation is a family-owned business that offers ice distribution and sales to nearly 300 regular customers in the Tampa Bay area. For 16 years now, they have served gas stations, supermarkets, convenience stores, construction sites, landscaping companies, organizations such as Feeding Tampa Bay, restaurants, clubs, hotels, and private events.
In 2014, Miriam Escobar, partial owner and head of accounting and administration for Florida Ice of Tampa, first came to Prospera seeking assistance to grow the business and enhance operations. Since then, Miriam received a business plan grant and has worked closely with Prospera business consultants to enhance the business’ foundation and boost growth.
When the pandemic started in 2020, Florida Ice of Tampa stopped receiving income from the restaurants, clubs, hotels, and private events they served, because they were closed for many months and some even shut down permanently. To balance the loss, Florida Ice of Tampa had to double its efforts to get more regular customers within the other industries they serve, hire more employees for driving and deliveries, and try to ensure that everyone in the Tampa Bay area had access to fresh ice. Despite operating costs and other pandemic-related challenges, Florida Ice of Tampa was able to increase its revenue and grow as a company during the past year.
