Georgia Client: Betty Martinez
Originally from Honduras, Betty Martinez pursued her American Dream by founding BGMart Construction, LLC in 2005, specializing in framing, siding, and roofing. Now, with over 18 years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Betty exemplifies resilience and ambition. She has not only become her own boss and gained financial independence, but also leveraged the opportunity to create jobs for the local Hispanic community.
In November 2023, Betty connected with Prospera through the Georgia Hispanic Construction Association (GHCA), seeking assistance to obtain minority certification. However, she found much more than that. Despite its longevity, BGMart Construction was facing numerous challenges, including lacking a comprehensive business plan and difficulties seizing opportunities in both the public and private sectors. Prospera provided Betty with personalized guidance and support, one-on-one business consulting, and was awarded with an optimized business plan for operations.
Since then, BGMart Construction has seen tangible improvements. Its new business plan facilitated a strategic focus on high-profit margin services, enabling the company to optimize labor resources and pursue larger projects. Today, Betty projects a 33% increase in gross sales for 2024. Reflecting on Prospera’s impact on her business, Betty emphasizes the organization’s role in preparing BGMart Construction for future endeavors. Looking ahead, she aims to pursue government contracts, signaling sustained growth and success for her business. For this reason, she is continuing to work closely with Prospera, seeking procurement readiness.
As a woman-owned and operated business, BGMart Construction embodies resilience, determination, and community empowerment. Betty’s journey inspires fellow Hispanic entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams with determination and perseverance. With Prospera’s assistance, Betty is paving the way for continued success in the construction industry.
