North Carolina Client: Sonia Marin-Duque
Originally from Colombia, Sonia Marin-Duque is a multifaceted entrepreneur. She is the owner of Andes Express, a parcel shipment company in Matthews, specializing in international shipping and wire money transfers. After having worked in a bakery for many years, Sonia sought the opportunity to add a bakery business in the same commercial space as her shipping company. With the unconditional support of her husband and children, Sonia was able to succeed at creating a family-friendly environment, offering a delightful experience to her clients.
Recently, Sonia came to Prospera seeking help to further grow her business. Initially, Prospera provided Andes Express with an accounting assessment and financial guidance to help Sonia improve her bookkeeping practices. Furthermore, with the help of the organization, Andes Express has increased its sales by approximately 80% since it first opened four years ago. At present, the finances of Sonia’s business continue to be handled by the accounting provider that Prospera connected them with, which has helped Andes Express’ operations be more organized, precise, and effective.
Meanwhile balancing motherhood and her two-in-one-location business, Sonia intends to open a couple of new locations following the same model. In fact, she wishes to open these in different cities in hopes that she can expand her reach and grow simultaneously in multiple markets. Sonia encourages other entrepreneurs, especially women, to follow their dreams. She warns them by expressing that owning and managing a business is not easy, but despite the challenges, with perseverance and dedication, it is possible.
