Volunteer Spotlight: Veronica Medellin-Blair

Veronica Medellin-Blair Prospera Regional Board in Georgia

Meet Veronica Medellin-Blair from our Prospera Regional Board in Georgia.

What are your company’s mission and products/services?

As a Vice President and Relationship Manager at Bank of America, I help business owners achieve their financial goals by providing tailored financial solutions. Bank of America’s mission is to improve financial lives, offering a comprehensive range of services that meet the unique needs of individuals and businesses at every stage of their journey. I’m proud to be part of a company that prioritizes empowering minority-owned businesses, a cause very close to my heart as a first-generation American.

What motivated you to serve as a volunteer for Prospera?

As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges minority communities face in accessing opportunities, whether it be in education, business, or finance. Growing up as the eldest child, I bore the responsibility of helping my family navigate these challenges, and that experience has fueled my passion for giving back. Prospera’s mission to uplift Hispanic entrepreneurs by providing resources and mentorship resonates deeply with me because I understand the struggles through personal experience. My motivation to serve on Prospera’s board stems from a desire to be part of the solution for others in my community who, like me, seek to build a better future.

What have you enjoyed the most so far about serving on Prospera’s board?

What I’ve enjoyed most is the opportunity to give back to a community that reflects my background and values. It is incredibly rewarding to help guide Hispanic entrepreneurs who are working tirelessly to build something better for themselves and their families. I also appreciate the chance to collaborate with fellow board members equally passionate about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

What would you most like the local community to know about Prospera?

I want the community to know that Prospera is more than just a resource; it’s a lifeline for Hispanic entrepreneurs trying to navigate the complexities of business ownership. For many of us from immigrant families, the path to success can feel daunting, but Prospera provides the tools, mentorship, and support needed to overcome those obstacles. It’s about creating opportunities and empowering people to achieve what sometimes feels out of reach.

Which are the three words that best describe you?

Resilient, Compassionate, Resourceful

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

One of my most valuable lessons is that life and career progress are not always linear. It’s not about constantly climbing the ladder but sometimes pausing, adjusting your route, and reassessing your environment and trajectory to align with your values and priorities. Success is not one-size-fits-all—it looks different for everyone, and each stage of life may call for a different focus. I’ve understood that success comes when your career and life path are in harmony with what truly matters to you, not just what’s traditionally defined as achievement.

How do you achieve work/life balance?

Achieving balance is a continuous journey, especially as a mother to a 3-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter, and with extended family who still look to me for guidance. While my family and community rely on me, they also uplift and support me in return, which is a beautiful reflection of our culture and the sense of community we share. It’s about setting clear boundaries and being intentional with my time. When I’m with my family, I’m fully present, and when I’m at work, I give it my full attention. I believe in modeling balance for my children, showing them that success and self-care coexist. This mutual support from my loved ones helps keep me grounded.

How do you stay informed about trends in your industry?

I stay informed by regularly reading local, national, and global economic and business reports, keeping a close eye on how macroeconomic trends impact my community and clients. Networking is essential, so I actively participate in business groups and chambers and attend conferences, webinars, and trade shows to learn from industry experts and stay updated on the latest innovations. I also follow industry leaders on social media, read relevant publications, and monitor competitors to spot emerging trends. Listening to my clients helps me understand shifting values, and I prioritize continuous learning to ensure my organization stays ahead in an ever-evolving industry.

Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?

I love visiting my clients’ businesses to see firsthand what they’re working to achieve. There’s a different energy and excitement when a business owner can walk you through their space and show you their goals in action. It’s inspiring to witness their passion. I also know how busy they are, so I aim to meet them where needed, ensuring I’m not disrupting their day but adding value by being present on their turf.

When clients prefer to step outside their work environment, I always ask what they enjoy. It’s often over a meal or at an event that we can connect beyond the professional capacity—something that resonates deeply with my Hispanic roots, where building relationships over shared experiences is central to our culture.

Which social media platform do you use most frequently?

I use Instagram and LinkedIn the most, as they allow me to stay connected with my professional/personal network and engage with organizations like Prospera. It’s a great platform for sharing success stories, learning about community events, and keeping the conversation going around the topics I care most about—like supporting minority-owned businesses.

What is one item still on your bucket list?

One of the top items on my bucket list is to take my children to my parent’s hometown in Zacatecas, specifically to visit their maternal grandmother’s “rancho,” which has been in our family for four generations. I want my children to understand their roots, to see firsthand where they come from, and to learn about the dreams and sacrifices their grandparents made that shaped their futures. They need to know how just one generation’s efforts created a ripple effect that changed the course of our family’s legacy—and how they are the beneficiaries of that fortune. Sharing this journey with them would be a meaningful way to honor our family’s story.
