What motivated you to serve as a Prospera volunteer?
My maternal grandparents came to this country and started multiple businesses to not only provide for our family but also to become immersed in the community. I have an affinity for entrepreneurs and small business owners who take the leap of faith and invest their time and passion in building a business from scratch and creating a better future for their families.
What have you enjoyed the most so far about serving on Prospera’s Regional Board as Chair?
The Prospera Board is a dedicated and passionate group that is totally onboard with the Prospera mission and direction to promote economic development in North Carolina. Regional Vice President Jose Alvarez and his staff keep the Board well informed and engaged in the strategy and impact delivered from Prospera business seminars, one-on-one consulting, and supporting business owners who are looking for capital. Each member of the Board brings tremendous experience and unique perspectives, and the entire team is eager to expand the reach and assistance that Prospera delivers to the community.
What would you most like the local community to know about Prospera?
North Carolina is fortunate to have Prospera working hard in the state to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses in starting and growing their businesses. Business owners are a driving force of GDP and job growth in North Carolina, and Prospera is at the forefront of the effort to support this growth. Prospera brings expertise and resources to help small business owners on a variety of topics, such as establishing the business structure, managing cash flow, creating marketing and operations plans, and developing procurement strategies. Many entrepreneurs and small business owners need guidance, given that they need to manage all aspects of a business and may not have the experience. Prospera offers them the tools and confidence to address the managerial aspects of the business, to focus more time and energy on their customers.
Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?
Coffee shops are a great place to meet and catch up with colleagues or friends. They are usually easy to get in and out of quickly if you have a quick meeting or limited time. Or, if you want to linger or meet for an extended amount of time, coffee shops don’t try to rush you out to seat the next guest. A warm beverage in hand is a nice and comforting way to build relationships, brainstorm ideas, or work on the laptop.
Raymond’s thoughtful leadership and commitment to supporting entrepreneurs reflect his belief in the power of small businesses to transform communities. At Prospera, we are grateful for his guidance and contributions as Regional Board Chair in North Carolina.
