Javier Marin serves as the Director of Economic Opportunity for the City of Tampa, where he oversees initiatives that promote business creation, economic inclusion, and equitable development. With more than 30 years of experience spanning banking, international trade, nonprofit leadership, and public administration, he brings a global and well-rounded perspective to his work.

What is your organization’s mission and what services does it offer?
The City of Tampa’s Economic Opportunity Department serves as a liaison to the business community, supporting entrepreneurs through partnerships with Prospera and other organizations that provide valuable tools for business creation and growth.
What motivated you to serve on Prospera’s Regional Board as a volunteer?
Over the past decade, I’ve worked with Prospera (formerly HBIF) in various capacities. I’ve seen firsthand their dedication to empowering small businesses, and when the opportunity came to join the board, it was an easy and natural decision.
What have you enjoyed the most about serving on Prospera’s Regional Board?
Client presentations and testimonials. It is incredibly fulfilling to witness the passion and commitment of the Prospera team and to see the progress entrepreneurs make through their guidance.
What would you most like the community to know about Prospera?
Prospera offers accessible and strategic support to entrepreneurs. Whether someone is starting or scaling a business, its professionals provide guidance in areas such as planning, marketing, SEO, legal, and accounting services.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
That you can learn from anyone, in any setting, as long as you are disciplined enough to truly listen.
