Central Florida Client – Miguel Ortega
Detal & Smith Trade, LLC is a family-operated business owned by Miguel Ortega. Backed with over 25 years of experience in manufacturing and distributing organic, natural, and biodegradable products, Miguel decided to start his business in Central Florida, importing environmentally friendly products from Ecuador. Amongst his most remarkable products are his own preserved natural flowers, World Breathes® biodegradable sugarcane bagasse straws and Soko® cosmetics, made from organic cacao butter.
The pandemic started when Detal & Smith Trade was hoping to introduce a key product to the local market.
When Detal & Smith Trade was hoping to carry out the inclusion of their biodegradable straws in the local market, the COVID-19 crisis started. Making it very difficult for them to achieve their business goal since their main prospect buyers-restaurants, diners, cafeterias, etc.-where shutting down for health-preserving restrictions and regulations.
In March of 2021, Miguel came to Prospera seeking advise on how to grow his business and promote it in different platforms. Prospera encouraged him to enroll on the 2021 virtual Providers Academy to learn the basics and requirements to acquire a minority certification, which would help him be able to compete for contracts with the local government. Wanting to overcome the losses that the pandemic crisis inflicted upon his business, Miguel took Prospera’s advise and enrolled in the Providers Academy with the goal to eventually become a biodegradable straws vendor for the local public school system and to continue raising awareness and promoting the usage of sustainable products.
Prospera acknowledges the importance of introducing eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products and cherishes the initiative and willingness of our clients towards a balanced environment.
