North Carolina Client: Jose Luis Armenta
Jose Luis Armenta is co-owner of D’El León, a family-owned and operated leather shoe manufacturer based in Guanajuato, Mexico. Jose Luis drew inspiration from his family’s shoe-making background, particularly his grandfather, to start his own business in this industry. Since establishing the business approximately two years ago, D’El León has been recognized for its outstanding quality.
Recently, the business expanded to Durham, North Carolina, when Jose Luis started importing his shoes to the area. In seeking to advance his entrepreneurial skills in the United States, the Carolina Small Business Development Fund introduced Jose Luis to Prospera. Since then, the organization has provided him with valuable guidance and support to enhance his business plan, improve the structure of his operation, and offered him ongoing personalized business consulting.
Based on his experience, Jose Luis advises other Hispanic small business owners to remain persistent in the pursuit of their dreams and to seek available resources, such as Prospera, to establish a solid foundation for their businesses and advance their entrepreneurial skills.
Next, Jose Luis hopes to position his shoes on Amazon and open a D’El León storefront in Durham. His strong conviction and commitment to carry on his family’s legacy has contributed to the success of the business so far. It is also the drive that keeps him motivated and focused to strive for sustainability and growth for many years to come.
