North Carolina Client: Valentina Castellanos
Brewing Community, Culture, and Growth
Valentina Castellanos always knew she wanted to own a business—just like her father. Inspired by his entrepreneurial journey and her own love for food, she envisioned a business that would connect people while celebrating her Colombian heritage.
After years of saving and waiting for the right moment, Valentina opened Caffeto Specialty Coffee in September 2024 in the heart of NoDa, Charlotte’s arts and entertainment district. Her coffee bar serves high-quality coffee sourced directly from her family’s farm, along with matcha, traditional Colombian desserts, and baked goods. On Saturday mornings, the space comes alive with house music, creating an inviting environment that blends culture and community.
Caffeto stands out as a woman-owned, family-operated mobile business with a warm, authentic vibe. In just a few months, it has become a neighborhood favorite—and now Valentina is preparing to open a second location in Lake Norman.
Support That Matched Her Ambition
Valentina first connected with Prospera in 2023 through an internship while still in school. By the time she was ready to bring her business to life, she knew exactly where to go for guidance.
Prospera supported her through every step of the startup process, helping her navigate licensing, legal requirements, and business documentation. She was also connected with CPA and Prospera provider Cecilia Carrion for expert financial advice. Through this support, Valentina built a solid foundation, clarified her goals, and gained confidence in her ability to grow the business.
Looking Ahead: Expansion and New Experiences
Later this year, Caffeto will open a second location in partnership with local clothing brand Outsider. The new space will offer barista workshops, an expanded menu, and the same welcoming atmosphere that defines the original. Valentina is focused on creating a place where customers come not only for coffee but also for connection and creativity.
Advice for Other Hispanic Entrepreneurs
Valentina encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to dive deep into their ideas and trust the process:
“Take everything step by step—no shortcuts. Learn what you’ll need, who your audience is, how much it will cost. Prospera is an amazing resource that guides you through every stage. Put love, discipline, and dedication into your process, and trust the journey.”
