North Carolina Client: Ada Esther Gil Jimenez

Building Dreams from the Ground Up

Inspired by her roots in the Dominican Republic and early exposure to construction through her father, Ada Esther Gil Jimenez turned personal challenges into motivation. After building her own home as a single mother, she founded AEGJ Construction, LLC in 2022 to empower others—especially minorities and women—to achieve their own dreams in construction.

Focused on Quality and Community

AEGJ Construction is a woman- and minority-owned general contracting company based in North Carolina. Licensed for both commercial and residential work, the company offers renovations, ADA-compliant upgrades, build-outs, and subcontracting for large-scale projects. Ada is committed to personalized service and opening doors for others in an underrepresented industry.

Navigating the Entrepreneurial Journey with Prospera

Ada connected with Prospera in 2023 at local construction events. Having recently left her full-time job to pursue her business full-time, she faced uncertainty and lacked formal business experience. With Prospera’s guidance, she strengthened her operations, developed a growth plan, and found renewed confidence through personalized consulting in business planning, marketing, and sustainability.

Impact and Growth

In less than two years, AEGJ Construction has completed commercial and nonprofit projects, including work at the local airport, Spectrum Center, and restaurant build-outs. The business is gaining recognition for its professionalism, reliability, and community engagement.

Looking to the Future

Ada’s goals include expanding her client base, improving estimates, hiring new staff, and creating a staffing division to support other contractors, further increasing her impact in both residential and commercial sectors.

Advice for Other Hispanic Entrepreneurs

“You have to stay strong and have faith. Believe in yourself and build your confidence,” says Ada. “There will be challenges and moments of doubt—impostor syndrome is real—but you have a purpose. Don’t try to do it all alone. Ask for help—Prospera is one of the resources you can lean on. Build your community because there will be moments when you feel lonely, but your community will help you move forward.” Ada’s journey shows what’s possible when personal passion meets strategic support—creating real opportunities for others to build and thrive.
