After years of maintaining relations with our nonprofit organization, Anibal Torres now serves as Prospera Market Lead in Georgia. His executive, senior-level experience includes strategic planning and management, advertising sales, and marketing, among others. He is a proven leader and communicator with numerous awards and a distinguished record of community service and industry involvement. Anibal served most recently for five years as Executive Director of Atlanta’s Latin American Association (LAA), before retiring in Summer of 2020. The LAA is the largest and oldest organization serving Metro Atlanta’s Latino community, empowering Latino individuals and families to adapt, integrate and thrive. He had previously served on the LAA Board of Directors from 2008 until 2015, including a term as Chairman.

Prior to his work at the LAA, Anibal had a long career in publishing, holding senior-level executive positions in a variety of media companies in the U.S. and Latin America. Anibal served from 2007 to 2013 as publisher of MundoHispánico, Atlanta’s largest Spanish-language newspaper. Before that, he was vice president and general manager of the Tribune Co.’s Hoy Spanish-language newspaper in New York City, and publisher of El Sentinel in Orlando, Florida. Earlier in his career, he worked across Latin America for McGraw-Hill and lived in Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Panama. Anibal currently serves as Board Chair of Explore Brookhaven, the city’s convention and visitors’ bureau, and as board member the City of Brookhaven’s Police Foundation.

His extensive community leadership and service has also included the Atlanta Region Learn4Life Leadership Council, City of Brookhaven Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission, National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) Region 2 Board, Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce Board, Orange County COMPACT Mentoring Program, Orange County International Executive Steering Committee, Osceola County Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Business Council, among others. Furthermore, while he lived in the Orlando metro area, Anibal was among the early and founding members of Prospera’s Central Florida Board of Directors when it was still called the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund. He served as Board Chair for the organization, as well as Don Quijote Awards Chair for Prospera’s signature special event, co-hosted with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando.

Anibal has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Dayton in Ohio. A native of Puerto Rico, he currently lives in Atlanta with his wife Teresa.
