Client Spotlight: Nuestro Porvenir, LLC

North Carolina Clients: Ramiro and Lidia Martinez

Building a Family Business with Purpose

Originally from Mexico, Ramiro Martinez and his wife, Lidia, wanted to create a better future for their children. In 2018, they opened Nuestro Porvenir, LLC, a family-owned grocery store located in Henderson, North Carolina.

From the start, the store has been more than a place to shop. Nuestro Porvenir provides staple foods, dairy products, health and beauty items, and fresh meats. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings to include beer sales, the NC Lottery, jewelry, quinceañera dresses, and freshly baked sweet bread from the in-house bakery.

A Business Rooted in Community

Ramiro and Lidia always envisioned Nuestro Porvenir as a place where families could find not only essential products but also support and connection. With time, their store has become a true gathering place for neighbors. During the holidays, they organize raffles to thank their customers and uplift those in need. They contribute to shelters and soup kitchens, donate food and clothing to immigrant families, and extend help to women experiencing domestic violence. Through these efforts, their store has grown into a safe and welcoming space where community and solidarity come first.

Finding Support with Prospera

As their business grew, Ramiro and Lidia began looking for resources to help them expand. They discovered Prospera through a Facebook post about a seminar and decided to learn more. After receiving personalized guidance through Prospera’s one-on-one business consulting, they gained valuable knowledge about commercial financing and a better understanding of access to capital solutions. Prospera also facilitated their connection with the Carolina Small Business Development Fund and supported them through the loan process, which allowed them to move forward with their expansion plans.

Advice for Other Entrepreneurs

Ramiro and Lidia encourage others not to let fear hold them back. “Sometimes you must take that fear, face it head-on, and run with it. There will always be ups and downs in running a business, but it is part of the process. Also, look for the resources available, like Prospera, because they are out there and they want to help.”

With dedication, community spirit, and the right support, Ramiro and Lidia are growing their business while creating opportunities for others.
