At Prospera, we are proud to highlight the individuals who support our mission every day through their volunteer work. Today, we’re excited to introduce Sharon Arroyo, Vice President of Government & Community Relations Florida at Duke Energy and a committed member of Prospera’s Governing Board.
In her own words: Get to know Sharon Arroyo
What motivates you to serve as a Prospera Governing Board Member?
The opportunity to advocate for entrepreneurs and help shape initiatives that empower our communities to thrive.
What’s one event or occasion that has impressed you during your time volunteering for Prospera?
Participating at multiple Success Stories Events in different locations continues to impress me. I’ve witnessed firsthand the inspiring journeys of Prospera’s clients and how their achievements highlighted the transformative impact of Prospera’s support.
How do you relax after a busy week?
I love spending time with family, mostly at all the wonderful theme parks in Central Florida!
What is one book that has influenced your leadership style?
Likeable Badass by Alison Fragale taught me the importance of balancing assertiveness with approachability, empowering me to gain respect while fostering genuine connections with people.
What’s the best advice a mentor gave you?
As a woman in the electric utility industry for over 35 years, the best advice a mentor gave me early in my career was to embrace my unique perspective and voice, not to adopt someone else’s leadership style. This helped remind me that diversity in leadership and thought drives innovation.
What’s an early job that helped shape who you are today?
My first real job was at Captain D’s at age 15. Working in a fast-food establishment taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and customer service.
What’s one personal goal you still strive to achieve?
I want to continue being a mentor for young professionals and create more pathways for diverse leadership in traditionally underrepresented industries.
