From Stability to Expansion: A Journey of Growth

When John Emily Studio was first featured as a Prospera client spotlight, they had already taken bold steps to strengthen their business. After facing critical challenges, they turned to Prospera, where they received business advancement services for a business plan and a marketing plan, along with key networking opportunities. With this support, they solidified their foundation and positioned themselves for long-term success.

Now, their journey continues as they reach new milestones and broaden their impact in the bridal industry. Before 2024 ended, John Emily Studio celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Lake Norman, expanding its reach to serve even more brides near this well-known North Carolina destination. With 2025 weddings already booked, their growth is stronger than ever.

Strategic Growth and New Opportunities

As John Emily Studio expanded, Katheryn Hermida seized opportunities to further elevate the business. She joined the Entrepreneur’s Organization Accelerator Program, a prestigious three-year cohort designed to help business owners scale. Through this initiative, she connected with industry leaders and gained valuable insights to manage and further grow a family-owned business.

Her entrepreneurial journey also took her across the world—from Charlotte to Milan, Italy, where she participated in an exclusive program at the Bocconi Business School, rated the best business school in Europe. There, Katheryn earned a certificate from the L.U.X.E. Academy, where executives from Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Campari, and GCDS led discussions on fashion entrepreneurship.

For Katheryn, this experience was especially meaningful, as she never had the opportunity to attend a traditional fashion school due to financial constraints. “The opportunity to travel to Milan and learn from some of the best in the industry completely made up for it,” she shares.

Beyond Bridal: The Launch of SLIC Brand

While John Emily Studio remains a key part of her entrepreneurial success, Katheryn has also launched a new venture: SLIC Brand – Spanish Ladies in Control. Under her business Katheryn Juliet Design, she created a fashion brand inspired by her heritage, blending influences from Ecuador, New Jersey, and Charlotte into a unique collection of workwear, military wear, heavy-duty apparel, and streetwear—all designed as unisex pieces.

Her inspiration comes from her mother, Maritza Batallas, who sent her clothing from the U.S. while she was growing up in Ecuador. The urban and sportswear styles she received shaped her vision, fueling her passion for design. Now, Katheryn aims to connect her brand with artisans in Ecuador, bridging cultures and expanding SLIC’s presence across both markets.

Looking Ahead

Katheryn’s growth as an entrepreneur continues to gain recognition. With Prospera’s guidance, she participated in the 53 Ideas Pitch Competition, refining her business vision and growth strategy.

While much of her focus has been on expanding John Emily Studio, she is now preparing to dedicate more time to growing SLIC Brand. “Prospera continues to provide us with resources and guidance today,” she shares. “I know that when I’m ready to scale my fashion brand, Prospera will be by my side, just like they were for John Emily Studio.”

From stabilizing a family business to launching her own fashion line, Katheryn Hermida exemplifies the power of perseverance, strategic support, and entrepreneurial vision.
