South Florida Client – Martha Castillo and family.
Arepasmania is a family-operated business that provides fast, fresh, and delicious food at the Pembroke Pines Mall. The menu offers a diverse and selective array of Venezuelan dishes, in convenient presentation options. By offering the best of Venezuelan cuisine, Arepasmania allows people of all cultures to enjoy authentic Latin-American flavors.
The initial inspiration for the business was born in the dining room of the Castillo´s family. Martha, her husband Diego, and their son Diego Jr. enjoy eating arepas every day, and they saw a business opportunity in this popular cultural practice. As a result, Martha decided to test the taste of her meals and assess her cooking skills. She invited friends, family, and other acquaintances to try her food, and once she confirmed that her arepas were a big hit, the Castillo’s started to develop their business concept.
Arepasmania opened its doors in November of 2017 and since then, husband and wife—Diego and Martha Castillo, manage the business’s operations while their son Diego Jr. oversees the administrative, finance, and marketing aspects of the business.
When the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, it severely affected Arepasmania.
The mall where they are located had to close for three months, forcing them to stop operations. A few months later, the reopening stage brought its own set of new challenges for the business. That is when, as a concerned mother wanting to protect her family and her business, Martha approached Prospera for guidance and support to be able to sustain and grow Arepasmania. After working together with a Prospera business consultant, Martha was awarded grants for a marketing and sales plan, and a business plan to improve their business operations.
Together with her son, Martha is working hard to strengthen the business, and to obtain all the necessary resources to be able to Franchise Arepasmania in Florida and Texas. Moreover, Arepasmania has partnered with some local delivery services to be able to bring their delicious products to their customers. Also, they are working strategically to develop a strong online presence through social media and redesigning their website to become even more accessible and user-friendly for clients. At Prospera, we celebrate the Castillo’s family determination to keep the business afloat amidst challenging situations and admire the hard work and commitment of Martha, and all the other mother entrepreneurs for offering outstanding products and services to their clients, growing their businesses, supporting their communities, all while also taking great care of their families.
